RE: Face Masks in Wicomico County Schools

September 2, 2021

Dear Chairman Malone:

This letter is written on behalf of the residents of District 2 who would like to encourage the Wicomico County Board of Education to hold a public meeting prior to the start of the new school year to formally vote on wearing face coverings while attending school.

It has come to our attention that the superintendent of schools has announced that all students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear face masks inside public schools. The Wicomico County Board of Education, however, did not formally vote on this mask mandate. We are requesting that a formal vote be taken by the Board of Education before school resumes next week.

We understand the Maryland State Board of Education is seeking an emergency regulation to require face coverings in all public schools, but until an emergency regulation is in place, the local school boards and superintendents should make this decision jointly.

Sincerely Yours,

Nicole Acle,

Wicomico County Council District 2 Representative
